Lisa Breslow American, b. 1957
Lisa Breslow (b. 1957, New York) is a New York City–based painter whose atmospheric oil paintings explore the quiet, contemplative moments within the urban landscape. Breslow moves between cityscape and landscape, finding poetry in places where architecture and nature intersect. Her impressionistic paintings on panel balance representation and abstraction, using expressive brushwork, shifting perspectives, and nuanced light to distill a scene to its emotional essence. Particularly drawn to the early morning and evening hours, Breslow transforms familiar New York environments into meditative spaces shaped by mood, weather, and season. Raised on Long Island and trained at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League of New York, her work has been exhibited extensively in the United States, including at the Heckscher Museum of Art, Long Island Museum, Academy Art Museum, and National Academy Museum. She has received two Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants and the S.J. Wallace Truman Prize from the National Academy Museum.
