Bay Light: Andrew Faulkner
Past exhibition
Overview
Bay Light is the second solo exhibition of Andrew Faulkner’s work and a dynamic follow-up to his debut exhibition, Exploring Light. After little more than a year, Andrew has created a new body of work that is, “a celebration of the warmth and vibrancy of the light in the Bay Area.” These 18 paintings showcase Andrew’s extraordinary ability to capture the uniqueness of the light around San Francisco and the surrounding area, known for its intoxicating beauty. Although he explores various subjects, color is always at the heart of his work, as he moves from representation to abstraction. Each work is built up layer upon layer, before he begins to distill and abstract the shapes into memories and feelings. Then, he begins to distill and abstract the shapes into memories and feelings. “I want the painting to give you the sensation of the place, rather than a depiction of the location,” says Andrew. There is an authenticity in his work that rings true and evokes feelings that are both familiar and novel; that is the magic in this work.
